The Australian Shepherd is a very dependable
dog and one who is very devoted to its owner. They are strong
agile dogs with great stamina. Contrary to their name, they do
not come from Australia. They were actually developed in the
United States for herding. They are used for various jobs, like
herding, narcotics and Search and Rescue.
The Australian Shepherd is good with children
and at the same time can serve extremely well as a watch or guard
dog. Australian Shepherds come in a variety of colors: blue merle,
red merle, black, and red, all with or without copper trim.
Height: 17 to 23 inches (43-58cm)
Weight: 30 to 70 pounds (12-20kg)
Temperament: The Australian Shepherd is a very active, responsive,
easy going dog and at the same time aggressive work dogs.
Care and Training: Long hair breed but very little grooming is needed.
They need daily exercise to keep good muscle tone.
Litter Size: 5 to 8 pups
Life Expectancy: 10 to 16 years
